Rick’s Place also educates parents, guardians and caregivers about the unique nature of childhood grief.

Did you know that grieving children do not always appear sad? Depending on a child’s cognitive developmental stage at the time of death they will go back and forth between feeling feelings about the death and playing, or being a child. It can take time for children to fully understand what the death of someone close means in their life.

At Rick’s Place participants break up into small groups based on age. Littles group for those in kindergarten-2nd grade, Middles group for those in 3rd through 5th grade, Young teens are in middle school, Teens are in high school and beyond. All young people attend with an adult who attends the adults only group. Each group plans activities based on the age of its participants.
